Scribner Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, seeks an Associate Marketing Manager or Marketing Manager to work on a range of literary fiction and nonfiction campaigns and manage the imprint’s TikTok channel. The ideal candidate will possess a love of both literary fiction and serious nonfiction, a strong understanding of the social media landscape (particularly Tiktok), 2+ years of marketing experience (book publishing preferred), and a creative, collaborative spirit.

 

Established in 1846, Scribner is home to a prestigious roster of established and emerging authors, and a distinguished list of bestselling, award-winning books. The imprint publishes across a variety of categories with an emphasis on literary and bestselling fiction (including such authors as Anthony Doerr, Jennifer Egan, Jesmyn Ward, Stephen King, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, among many others) and serious nonfiction – particularly history, politics, current events, and business.

 

Preferred candidates will be creative and organized and have a strong understanding of the social media landscape, experience creating social content (including videos and graphics), and a high confidence level with launching organic and paid multimedia campaigns. Strong candidates will be familiar with a book production timeline - from acquisition to on-sale to shelf life - and be comfortable synchronizing marketing activities throughout each phase as well as communicating and presenting their plans and ideas with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities include:

·       Conceiving and executing multitouch marketing campaigns with an emphasis on digital and social strategy

·       Devising and presenting marketing campaigns and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders

·       Advising authors on establishing and growing their online presence (when and where applicable) via email collection, Meta, Goodreads, Twitter, YouTube, Tiktok, LinkedIn, etc.

·       Developing and producing marketing content, particularly video, both in coordination with the S&S video team and independently using apps like Tiktok and Capcut

·       Managing one or more of Scribner’s social media channels as well as working with influencers and researching and partnering with new influencers

·       Overseeing paid digital/social campaigns and synthesizing data analytics

·       Coordinating with the Simon & Schuster corporate and digital marketing groups, including e-mail marketing strategy, content marketing and academic marketing

·       Supervising creative for ads, sales collateral, and other promotional items

·       Cultivating strategic promotional partnerships

·       Working with multiple divisions, including publicity, creative services, sales divisions, etc.

·       Managing and growing the imprint’s social media presence

 

Preferred candidates

·       2-5 years of marketing experience in book publishing or related industry

·       Experience managing social media content creation, especially video content, strongly preferred

·       Proven success in consumer-facing campaign planning, digital marketing, social media strategy, and talent management

·       Strong understanding of the planning stages of a publishing campaign, from preorder to on-sale to lifecycle, and ability to communicate clearly about the processes and goals at each phase

·       Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)

·       Organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and versatile to handle a range of projects

·       Understanding of the ever-evolving media landscape

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
