For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd. 

We are looking for a Board Game Developer for Rebellion Unplugged, our tabletop RPG and board game division. This is an exciting role for a talented, ambitious individual to join our friendly team and spearhead a growing and diverse list of games. 

This role is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment. 

We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and encourage working from our Oxford headquarters. However, we understand that flexibility matters, so we’re open to discussing hybrid options based on individual needs. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the board game portfolio, ensuring that all products are consistent with the company's strategic objectives and present significant commercial opportunities for both crowdfunding and retail.
  • Oversee critical paths and maintain live budget documents to achieve development, production, and financial forecasting objectives.
  • Commission, develop, and rigorously playtest 2–3 new board games or expansions each year, ensuring high-quality gameplay and components while adhering to budget and scheduling constraints.
  • Assess and playtest new game proposals, delivering presentations during regular New Products meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Production team on materials and components, ensuring their feasibility within specified deadlines and budget parameters.
  • Guide the artistic and design process by briefing and commissioning artists, as well as reviewing rulebooks and copy for precision and clarity.
  • Provide game content, assets, and updates for crowdfunding campaigns and assist in creating persuasive crowdfunding offerings.
  • Work in conjunction with Marketing and Sales teams to develop engaging copy, emphasize key selling points, and furnish distributors with vital sales information.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and network with designers and artists to source proposals and commissions.
  • Facilitate licensing opportunities by supplying the Rights Manager with necessary materials and updates.
  • Professional experience in developing and publishing board games.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and knowledge of the hobby games, board games, and card games markets, alongside experience in playing a diverse range of games,
  • Great organisational skills, especially time management and the ability to prioritise workload. 
  • Exceptional proficiency in both written and verbal English, accompanied by strong communication skills with colleagues, collaborators, and clients.
  • Strong and engaging presentation abilities.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to think creatively. 
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with a strong ability to quickly adapt to new software.
