A lead position will become available due to the forthcoming retirement of our Director General. The present Director General has enjoyed a very productive period with the Association and will engage with the successful candidate to deliver a professional handover and transition with as little disruption to BAR staff and the Association as possible.

The British Association of Removers (BAR) is a long established Trade Association representing the professional sector of the industry. It is accepted as the voice of the industry and interacts with government and business to play a lead role in the development and improvement of standards and practice, and promote its’ Members to the marketplace.

First established in 1900 the British Association of Removers is an Association actively supported by its Members, who participate on a voluntary basis. The Board of Directors are drawn from these pro-active individuals, who work closely with the Director General; who is accountable to the BAR Board of Directors.

The Director General is:

  • The Chief Executive Officer
  • The Principal Policy Adviser
  • The Spokesperson of the Association and its subsidiaries
  • Responsible for the delivery of the agreed policy and strategic plan, and for the management of the operation of the Association and the results achieved.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have broad commercial and marketing experience, high level financial and management skills, be a first class negotiator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of the removal industry would be beneficial, but not mandatory, however a good knowledge of Trade Associations and / or the Logistics industry is an advantage. You must be highly motivated, results driven and have a β€˜hands-on’ approach throughout.
