The Director, Global Head of Publication Planning is responsible for leading the successful development and implementation of scientific and medical communications across the Ascendis Pharma’s Endocrine portfolio, from the pre-launch phase through the full lifecycle of Ascendis’ products.   The Director will manage a successful team of writers and collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Clinical Development, Corporate Communications, Commercial, Legal, Regulatory, and Corporate Oversight Committees to deliver effective scientific and medical communications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as key member of the Scientific Affairs organization, within Global Medical Affairs, with oversight in developing publication plans and executing publication tactics across therapies.  
  • Ability to prioritize concurrent projects with tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to interpret and synthesize complex clinical/scientific findings, statistical reports, and adapt messaging targeting diverse audiences.
  • Establish a process integrating country level Medical Affairs organizations with Global Publication plans.
  • Develop a deep scientific and clinical understanding of assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Responsible for the development of strategic publication plans and delivery of high-quality publications across the endocrine portfolio. 
  • Lead cross-functional publication teams to ensure alignment of publication plans to Medical Affairs strategy, and ensuring plans are developed collaboratively with key internal stakeholders to represent a transparent and fair balanced approach to publishing company data.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external publication guidelines, including ICMJE, GPP3, CONSORT, AMA, and other standards globally as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in the assigned therapeutic areas, and drive publications through the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and evolve strategy of fully integrated Publication Plans for each product, including formal literature review, gap analysis, and timing of publication deliverables.
  • Drive strategy and scientific content development for scientific meetings, including execution of congress deliverables, identify post publication digital communication opportunities, and collaborations with journals and societies to maximize the awareness of Ascendis publications.
  • Lead generation of, abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and provide on-site congress support as appropriate.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Ascendis in relationships with external experts, researchers, presenters, and vendors.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills, with a positive attitude, flexibility of approach, and a proven sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
  • Develop publication planning strategy meeting at least yearly.
  • Act as a member of the Grants/CME review committee as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Grants Review Committee
  • Ensure alignment with key stakeholders such Legal/Compliance, Regulatory, Corporate, and Medical
  • Routinely represent Medical Communications strategies and provide regular updates to leadership ensuring plans are aligned and approved by corporate oversight committees
  • Create and maintain budget for group functions, working closely with Operations and Finance
  • Develop clear and compelling messaging relevant to the therapeutic areas that will resonate with key audiences
  • Advanced degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD) in a scientific discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical market, in both small and    large companies including supervisory experience. 
  • Experience in rare disease, endocrinology and/or growth hormone market preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with drug-device combination products preferred, but not required.
  • An understanding of the pharmaceutical commercialization process and knowledge of the regulatory and legal guidelines affecting promotion of prescription products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing and presenting on scientific and clinical data
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, time management, and project planning skills with strong ability for self-direction.
  • Ability to work in teams and interface in a dynamic environment across corporate functions.
  • Understand US regulatory landscape and apply expertise to development of scientific resources.
  • Prior experience of successfully managing consultants and vendors.
  • Strong computer and database skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally.
    • Salary Range: $220-234K/year
