An exciting opportunity has come up as Head of Sales and Corporate Development at PheroSyn. PheroSyn is a high-tech start-up based in Harpenden, U.K., contributing to smart and sustainable agricultural pest management solutions using synthetic insect pheromones to reduce and replace pesticides within the growing Agri-Tech sector.

Head of Sales and Corporate Development Job Summary

We are currently seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, goal oriented professional to join our management team. The initial focus will be selling existing insect pheromone systems, managing enquiries, outreach to new customers and market assessments including liaison with customers and partners.


Working closely with the CEO and Director of Operations, the candidate should be adept at transitioning between multiple tasks consistent with a small start-up company. An entrepreneurial attitude and understanding are essential. The position requires at least 5  years’ experience in corporate roles (corporate sales/business development or consulting). Start-up experience preferred but not essential. The successful candidate will have both strong technical and strong communication and sales expertise. Knowledge of agricultural markets preferred.


Requires ability to perform wide range of activities consistent with an early-stage company to include:

  • Direct sales to distributors of existing monitoring products
  •  Explore relationships with corporate entities as R&D and commercial partners
  • Negotiate contracts as part of a team, to determine scope of work, compensation, terms of engagement, milestones, deadlines for delivery of services/products
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to help reach target markets and drive growth in revenue


 Skill sets:

  • Customer management and sales experience
  • Market research and assessment
  • Business and customer needs analysis and assessment
  • Technical competence, expertise or knowledge of pheromone science highly valued
  • Project management skills
  • Organised, professional with good communication skills and ability to work within a small resource restricted team
  • Understanding of the dynamics of a start-up and assistance in identifying new and existing opportunities for corporate growth


MBA and science background preferred but not necessary.


Position could be full time or on contract basis. Must be able to travel to US and other key markets.


 Requirements and Qualifications

  • Scientific background coupled with MBA preferred or on-the-job management experience
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience
  • Background knowledge of agriculture/farming desirable
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Job Type: Full time, Fixed Term (12 months initially, good prospects for extension/permanent role)
