As the voice of the UK’s smart building management & automation systems industry, the Building Control Industry Association's (BCIA) mission is to ensure building controls are seen as the go-to solution to meet sustainability and energy efficiency targets in the built environment. We lead on lobbying and advocacy, support our members in delivering outstanding solutions, develop apprenticeship and training schemes, and increase awareness of the impact building controls & automation systems deliver for building owners, users and managers. We represent over 185 companies across all four corners of the UK.
Following a period of unprecedented growth, BCIA are now seeking a talented marketing and events professional to take on the newly created role of Marketing & Engagement Manager. The successful candidate will enjoy working with multiple stakeholders including member companies, partners, service providers and will have experience in delivering marketing & communications activity within a B2B context.
It’s an exciting role comprising marketing and communications activity, event planning and delivery and training administration. The successful candidate will bring proven experience of on and offline marketing and will be well versed in planning and delivering high quality meetings and events.
No two days are likely to be the same in this varied and busy role that will also be responsible for managing our training certification.

The role will report to the Executive Officer but will be comfortable working directly with member companies, Management Committee members, delegates and other stakeholders.
Experience in the BEMS/BACS industry isn't essential, but a willingness to learn about the sector is important. A background working in a membership/trade association environment would be advantageous but not essential.
The role can be fully remote, hybrid or office based (office is near Reading). Some travel to meetings and events across the UK will be required. Travel expenses will be paid from the nearest base to any meeting venue.
The role is offered as full time but a minimum 80% FTE (28hrs a week) can also be accommodated with flexibility on days/hours. Salary c28,000.

Main Responsibilities:
To plan, deliver and measure marketing and communications activities including but not limited to:
- Monthly members newsletter
- Bi-annual industry bulletin
- Social media content plans
- Website content management
- Drafting of news articles and blogs
- Support with scoping of external campaign plans
- Channel development activity
- Drafting copy and proof reading for creation of assets
- Purchasing of promotional giveaways
- Development of presentations and speaking notes
- Development of briefing notes
- Development of procurement briefs
- Working with the EO, plan and deliver an annual programme of member events that optimises engagement and furthers the reach of BCIA within member companies
- Working with the EO, help to plan BCIA’s presence at third-party events such as exhibitions, conferences and speaking opportunities.
- Development of event concepts and themes, securing speakers and sponsorship and taking events through planning to delivery
- Experience of measuring event success and gathering delegate evaluation
- To support with the ongoing maintenance of marketing databases
To deliver aspects of training administration including, but not limited to:
- Production and distribution of certificates
- Maintenance of certification records
- Promotion of BCIA’s courses
- Driving awareness and sales of the BCIA Inspired Leaders Programme
- Working with the training team provide support handling training enquiries
- Liaison with training partners as required
- To provide support with the secretariat function of the Working Groups, specifically the Marketing Working Group but others as required, and assist with the project management and delivery of Working Group projects.
- Updating records and adding marketing/member communications and news to the members platform/CRM.
- Working with the EO, provide support with member engagement initiatives to aid recruitment and retention levels.
- Working with the EO, provide support with the implementation of the BCIA’s corporate plan, including involvement in the planning cycle and member engagement for periodic and full-term reviews.
- Attend meetings & events as required.
- Work with BCIA suppliers including the: Strategic Communications Agency, Annual Awards Event Management Agency, Market Reports Agency, Public Affairs Agency, Training Services team and others as required from time to time.
- Maintain open and positive relationships with the elected Presidential Team and Management Committee.
- Maintain and develop positive and open relationships with member companies and their teams.
- To maintain positive and open relationships with the FETA Secretariat.
Qualifications, Personal Qualities, Skills & Experience
- Qualification in a marketing or relevant discipline for the role
- Marketing and communications experience (min 3 years) with the ability to create engaging content.
- Proven experience of planning and delivering events.
- Excellent administrative skills and good knowledge of the main office software applications. Experience of other marketing, e-newsletter and social media tools and website CMS’s (we use Squarespace) would be advantageous.
- Experience of using a CRM and member engagement approaches. It would be an advantage to have worked in an Association or membership-oriented organisation.
- Would be an advantage, but not essential, to have a working knowledge of the building controls industry.
- It would be an advantage to have additional experience digital content design/creative expertise.
- Be able to set KPI’s, monitor performance of activities and be able to recommend adjustments to the strategy as needed.
- Be self-motivated, have integrity, and be able to encourage others (many of whom are volunteers) to meet their commitments.
- Good time management skills to deliver projects on time and to budget.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good aural and oral communication skills.
- Good presentation skills and a personable manner.
