Modal
Full-time
On-site
New York, New York, United States

About Us:

Modal is building the serverless compute platform to support the next generation of AI companies. Modal was started with the goal to make it easier to iterate and ship applications for data, AI, and machine learning. In order to deliver the developer experience we wanted, we went deep and built our own infrastructure—including our own custom file system, container runtime, scheduler, container image builder, and much more.

In just a year we've hit 8-figure revenue, tripled our headcount, scaled our infrastructure to flexibly support thousands of GPUs, and become a critical part of the tech stack of some of the most innovative AI companies. We’ve also raised over $32M in funding from top-tier VCs.

Working at Modal means:

  • Being early on the journey of one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure players, with many opportunities to grow within the company.

  • Having a front row seat to the latest technology and market developments in AI.

  • Collaborating with a fast and talented team made up of creators of popular open-source projects, academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.

The Role:

We’re looking to bring on our first Marketing hire to help us shape Modal’s messaging, positioning, and content strategy. This person will be building and executing a marketing plan from 0 to 1 that resonates with our ideal customer profiles (ICP) and drives awareness, engagement, and conversion. In this role, you will:

  • Own the structure, tone, and copy of our website to ensure it communicates our value proposition clearly and consistently to all key stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the sales team to produce effective pitch decks, battle cards, and other assets that support sales efforts and drive revenue.

  • Build out a system based on ICP work to identify and target key customer segments, ensuring our marketing efforts align with the highest-potential markets.

  • Take the lead in driving content initiatives, particularly those less technical in nature like case studies, market landscape overviews, and thought leadership pieces.

  • Optimize distribution across key channels (i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, Hacker News) and create systems to repurpose content and track performance.

  • Manage the email lifecycle system, running A/B testing and analyzing results to optimize engagement.

  • Communicate product updates, ensuring customers stay informed on new features and developments.

  • Stay on top of competitor products and market trends to adjust messaging, content, and positioning.

  • Identify and manage contractors or agencies to amplify content creation in areas where internal resources or expertise are limited (e.g., video production, specialized content).

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of marketing experience with a strong background in content creation and strategy

  • Exposure building marketing strategies from 0 to 1

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills

  • Exposure to tech and coding (you don’t need to be an engineer, but you should feel comfortable discussing technical concepts such as AI trends, GPUs, etc.)

  • Ability to work in-person in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
