Job Summary

VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a Senior Manager, Digital Marketing Operations to join our Consumer Acquisition & Retention (CAR) team. The CAR department handles a variety of areas: overall company website, apps, and organic marketing systems (email and in-app/push via the Iterable CRM); marketing analytics (Singular, Looker); and sales and marketing for the Shonen Jump and VIZ Manga digital manga subscription services. We also provide close support to: the larger Marketing Group (Product Marketing, Brand Management, Events/Shows) with their priorities and activations; and the Engineering/Product Development teams to enhance the website and digital manga product offering.

The Senior Manager, Digital Marketing Operations will manage the overall operations of the Consumer Acquisition and Retention department, with an emphasis on organizing projects and workflows. We’re looking for someone to keep us organized, productive, and on track so that leads and team members can focus on planning, strategy, and execution. As a leader in the manga/anime space, this role will require versatility, adaptability, and creative thinking as our business continuously evolves in a quick-changing market.

What you’ll do:

Work with the VP of CAR to manage departmental operations, including:

  • Overseeing department workflows and projects to ensure teams are tracking to key deliverables, critical milestones, and departmental goals.
  • Making sure all team members are getting the most value from Asana, our new project/workflow management software by:
    • Setting goals and OKRs
    • Managing workflows and forms
    • Understanding dependencies across functions
    • Handling task management, communications, and routing
    • Overseeing timelines, deadlines, and deliverables
    • Maintaining consistency with templates that involve other departments (e.g., Creative and Approvals)
  • Understanding departmental goals, OKRs, and priorities 
  • Helping VP understand how resources are being used and where bottlenecks might be happening
  • Offering creative solutions on how to continuously improve processes and productivity
  • Managing and organizing CAR department schedules
  • Organizing our tech stack infrastructure, including documentation where needed
  • Organizing our various reporting/dashboards
  • Maintaining knowledge base 
  • Supporting marketing priorities, where needed

Lead the company-wide Asana core team:

  • Lead our client relationship with Asana
  • Lead regular Asana meetings for knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Lead onboarding / training of new users to Asana
  • Lead the communication of platform updates
  • Support the larger Marketing group (Product Marketing, Brand Management, Events/Shows) to help busy teams get value from Asana
  • Support Creative, Approvals, Production, and other interdepartmental teams who are critical to Marketing group workflows
  • Support consistent application of workflow tools where it makes sense
  • Provide limited workflow-building support to other departments, with a “train the trainer” approach
  • Work with IT/Admin on provisioning, license budgeting, and utilization reporting, as needed

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, subscriptions, or related areas
  • 3+ years of experience with enterprise level project management software (e.g. Asana, ClickUp, Smartsheet, Monday, etc.)
  • Methodical and disciplined approach to managing deadline driven projects and workflows
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player mindset with ability to work cross functionally to solve complex issues
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing or related field, or equivalent experience, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

Additional preferred skills/knowledge: 

  • Experience in media/entertainment/publishing industry strongly preferred
  • Interest in anime and/or manga
  • Prior leadership experience heading cross-functional projects (not necessarily supervisory)

Work Environment & Schedule

Location: The Senior Manager, Digital Marketing Operations position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area. VIZ Media operates on a hybrid schedule with 2 days of work onsite at our downtown San Francisco office expected weekly. 

Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position (40 hours per week) with core hours of 9 am to 5 pm with some flexibility as needed. 

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
