Overview

The Academic Marketing department at HarperCollins is seeking a creative and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a Marketing Associate. The Academic Marketing department works across all imprints of the adult trade division of HarperCollins Publishers and focuses on titles with appeal in the higher education market. The ideal candidate is someone who loves books, is a strong writer and communicator, is very detail oriented and a quick learner who thrives in a dynamic environment. 

  

This is a hybrid position based out of our New York office

Responsibilities

  • Working under supervision, writes content and copy that appeals to an academic audience for several types of direct-to-consumer campaigns.
  • Reads widely, thinks critically and expansively about the variety of ways in which a book can fit into course use.
  • Communicates effectively with potential adopters and interested academics about our trade titles.
  • Writes teaching guides for the college and high school levels. Coordinates freelancing of guides as necessary.
  • Contributes to our departmental podcast series, HarperAcademic Calling.
  • Assists with departmental related customer service tasks, including email queries and the desk/exam copy process.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of academic subject-area catalogs: codes titles for subject, writes copy, proofreads, and assists in entry of extras for specific subjects.
  • Attends academic conferences - coordinates travel for authors, creates promotional materials for distribution, helps to set up our exhibit booth, recommends and sells books to attendees, and follows up with requests.
  • Assists others in the department as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2 years of prior publishing (academic marketing experience preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to set priorities while under pressure
  • Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and blogging platforms
  • Academic writing background preferred
  • Knowledgeable about social media for marketing purposes
  • Ability to travel to academic and library conferences as needed

The salary for this position is $53,000-$55,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.  As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
