What is the purpose of this job?
The Propositions Manager will play a key role in developing and managing customer propositions that align with the rail industry’s strategic objectives. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Train Operating Companies, the Department for Transport, Great British Railway Transition Team (GBRTT) and industry partners, to drive the delivery of initiatives within the Proposition team’s portfolio that grow revenue, facilitate great customer experiences, and contribute to the success of the railway industry.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced commercial product professional with background in managing business propositions, stakeholder engagement, project management, and market and performance analysis.
What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to lead and be involved with include:
- Proposition Management: Own the roadmap for propositions within your portfolio, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver tangible commercial value for RDG and the wider rail industry. This means owning the strategic plan that outlines each proposition’s direction, priorities, and progress over time.
- Commercial Strategy: Identify, prioritise and deliver opportunities for proposition development, ensuring alignment with evolving rail industry strategies.
- Market Analysis & Research: Understand the market you operate in, keeping on top of customer demands and industry trends. Use this data to shape the development of existing propositions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, including marketing, digital, insight and analysis, finance, and fares teams, as well as external partners such as train operators, DfT, GBRTT, retailers and suppliers, to ensure successful proposition delivery.
- Project Management: Manage the end-to-end process of initiatives on your roadmap, including coordinating cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Digital, Fares or Insight, setting timelines, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Work with customer insights teams to ensure that all propositions are delivered with the end-user in mind, focusing on improving the overall customer experience.
- Performance Monitoring: Continually measure and evaluate the performance of propositions in your portfolio. Use sales and journey data to optimise offerings and drive continuous improvement to meet commercial targets.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure that all propositions comply with relevant regulations and industry standards such as those set by the Department for Transport, managing any risks associated delivery of proposition offerings.
- Proposition Management: Significant experience in propositions management, product development, or similar commercial roles.
- Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. Experience working with governmental agencies or other public-sector organisations would be advantageous.
- Project Management: Strong organisational and project management skills, with experience managing complex, cross-functional projects from inception to delivery.
- Commercial Acumen: A solid understanding of revenue generation and the financial drivers behind propositions.
- Customer Focused: A passion for customer-centricity with experience in delivering propositions or services that meet customer needs and drive satisfaction.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Experience with business case development and market research is highly desirable.
